A Few Ways To Prevent Hearing Loss
Hearing loss, unfortunately, is a feature of aging. Over time humans lose the ability to pick up certain frequencies and eventually it gets to a point where being able to understand words becomes an difficulty. Usually, it does not happen until relatively late in life, but it will probably happen to everyone who gets old enough. Apart from this kind of hearing loss, there is noise-induced hearing loss that occurs when a person is exposed to loud noises for extended periods of time. Over-stimulation of the tiny hair cells that act as sound amplifiers in the inner ear leads to their death and hearing loss as a result of that death.
It is important to note that there are different types of noise induced hearing loss. Acoustic trauma involves a single one time traumatic percussive event from a loud noise like an explosion or a drum being hit. Then there is gradual noise induced hearing loss which happens due to exposure to loud noise over a period of time.
One easy way to prevent noise induced hearing loss is to avoid continuously exposing your ears to loud noises. This can be done by not listening loud music, especially on headphones, or by using ear protection when in noisy situations. The quality of headphones may also play in hearing loss as lower quality headphones force the user to to increase the volume in order to hear more clearly. It is believed that sounds above 85 decibels are likely to cause damage to the ear and eventual deafness.
Still another way that a person lose their hearing is because of a buildup of earwax that may block the ear canal. It is possible for improper ear-cleaning techniques to push earwax further into the ear creating the blockage that can result in hearing loss. The ears should always be cleaned by a medical professional.
